Pet Vaccinations and Preventative Medicine
The old saying “an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure” certainly holds true when referring to maintaining an animal’s health! The key to a long and happy life is prevention. By doing the seemingly routine things on a regular basis such as regular wellness checks, vaccinations, and spaying/neutering pets; many potentially life threatening conditions can be prevented in the future.
Regular wellness checks can help catch small issues before they become untreatable. Some examples include kidney failure in cats, obesity in all animals, and oral health. In addition to being the law, regular vaccinations prevent deadly diseases such as rabies, parvo, and canine distemper. Finally, spaying and neutering animals not only prevents unwanted behaviors and pregnancies, but helps prevent cancer, prostate issues, and uterine infections.
In today’s economic environment, we are all conscious of money and try to cut corners in areas that may be the least visible to us. I always advise all of my clients to spend $30 dollars on a vaccine now rather than $3,000 later with the risk of losing a beloved pet to something preventable.
